Helios Consultancy was founded by Pranay, an actuarial specialist with a diverse and unconventional background. After completing a Master’s degree in Homeopathy, Pranay gained international experience working in the UK, traveling across Europe, and studying in India. Seeking a new intellectual challenge, he returned to South Africa to pursue a degree in Actuarial Science at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Following his graduation, Pranay began his actuarial career at The Hollard Life Assurance Company, where he spent over eleven years across various teams. His work spanned data analytics, model development, capital modelling, tax, and statutory valuations. One of his standout contributions was the development of an Analysis of Surplus (AoS) model, as well as pioneering quarterly valuations and embedded value calculations for Hollard’s Mozambique operations.

During a broader company restructure, Pranay transitioned through several key roles, including positions in the Altrisk, Direct, and Partner Services valuation teams. His extensive experience and deep understanding of life insurance products culminated in the establishment of Helios Consultancy Services — a boutique actuarial consulting firm offering specialist expertise in life valuations, financial modelling, and IFRS 17 implementation.

Since its inception, Helios has continued to support Hollard across multiple business areas, maintaining a strong and enduring relationship. In 2022, Deloitte was added to Helios’ growing client portfolio, marking the beginning of another successful collaboration.
